Tough sledding last week at UFC Vegas 3: Blaydes vs Volkov. Pretty fitting karma for me using a Tony Ferguson gif to describe my winning streak and as a result but up an Artem Lobov .500 record (6-6 UFC Vegas 3, 54-20 overall). But as Coach John Kavanaugh would say, you Win or Learn. So this week we're bouncing back and taking what is ours....the money I donated to my bookie last week. So here we go, another week of Stitty Wap Bets: UFC Vegas 4 edition. I highlighted the Main/Co-Main and gave my picks for the remaining card, please enjoy and share!
UFC Fight Night: Hooker vs. Poirier fight card, odds
Dustin Poirier -200 vs. Dan Hooker +175 - Lightweight (155)
Mike Perry -300 vs. Mickey Gall +240 - Welterweight (170)
Brendan Allen -300 vs. Kyle Daukaus +245 - Middleweight (185)
Maurice Greene -220 vs. Gian Villante +180 - Heavyweight
Luis Pena -270 vs. Khama Worthy +220 - Lightweight (155)
Miranda Maverick -300 vs. Mara Romero Borella +240 - Women's Flyweight (125)
Philipe Lins -110 vs. Tanner Boser -110 - Heavyweight
Sean Woodson -240 vs. Julian Erosa - 150-pound Catchweight
Takashi Sato -170 vs. Ramiz Brahimaj +145 - Welterweight (170)
Kay Hansen vs. Jinh Yu Frey - Women's Strawweight (115)
Jordan Griffin -125 vs. Youssef Zalal +105 -- Featherweight (145)
Men’s Lightweight/Main Event (155)
#3: Dustin "The Diamond" Poirier, (25-6 MMA, 17-5 UFC), (Favorite)
#5: Dan "The Hangman" Hooker, (20-8 MMA, 10-4 UFC), (Underdog)
This fight could easily be a co-main on a major PPV. Talk about two guys who have really skyrocketed over the past couple of years. Dustin has looked fantastic since his move up to 155, only losing twice and one of those being his previous fight to Khabib Nurmagomedov for the title in September 2019. Hooker has won 7 of 8 including current #1 contender at 170 Gilbert Burns and Paul Felder. Needless to say this is a massive title implication fight, with the winner getting either Tony Ferguson (whenever he recovers from the Justin Gaethje fight), Conor McGregor (if his retirement is BS like we all believe to be the case), or possibly the winner of Khabib/Gaethje if neither of those guys are ready to go be the year's end. **My guess is the winner calls out Conor for a the big $$$ fight**. Regardless, this fight should be an absolute war and one you don't wanna miss (and really what else do you have to do? There are no other live sports and it's free on ESPN).
BET/PREDICTION (Dustin) Not really predicting TKO or Decision here but the pick is Dustin. I think Hooker has a more diverse set of tools but Dustin has a more dominant aspect of his. The big advantage for Hooker is the reach and ability to fight from range but 5 rounds should favor Dustin. I like Dustin's aggression vs Hooker's movement in the longer bout, Hooker slowed down immensely in the Felder fight and as a result ate a lot of big shots late in a fight many thought he lost. I like the experience, cardio, and power advantage for Poirier but I think this fight is waaayyy closer than the betting line gives it credit for.
**UPSET PICK** | Men's Welterweight/Co-Main Event (170)
"Platinum" Mike Perry, (13-6 MMA, 6-6 UFC)
Mickey Gall (6-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC)
PREDICTION/BET (Gall by Submission)
Seeing as though Perry has fought nothing but top 15 guys in his last 7 fights (2-5) it makes sense why the oddsmakers see this as a huge step back in competition, and in normal circumstances that would be true. HOWEVA, the guy is an absolute wildcard. He recently parted ways with his team due to differing opinions on fight style. So now he will be cornered by his 20-year-old girlfriend who has 0 MMA experience/knowledge other than being a “tough peanut butter cu chocolate chip cookie”. Granted, he still has a massive advantage on the feet and KO power. If Gall can get it to the ground he will give Perry real problems which the coaching will rear it’s ugly head. I like Gall with the odds here to find a submission.
