Huge news today in the MMA world, "Funky" Ben Askren announced on the Helwani Show that he will be retiring from MMA. The announcement comes just a year after the historic trade with ONE Championship that sent the most successful UFC Champ in the company's history, "Mighty Mouse" Johnson to Asia. The sheer fact that Ben ever fought in the company is surprising given the past issues with President Dana White.

The announcement comes just a few months after getting put into the Upside Down by Jorge Masvidal's flying knee. Followed by some "super necessary" Ground and Pound that led to the quickest KO in UFC history.
Ben then made his return to Asia in a headlining fight with Demian Maia. This slug-fest was unfortunately ended by Maia once again putting Ben to sleep (this time by RNC).

Overall, Ben went 1-2 in the UFC, his only win a highly controversial stoppage win over Robbie Lawler. Good for Ben though, his goal was to come in, talk some shit, and prove he was the best fighter on the planet. And by his own admission he was not able to do that so ultimately there was no reason for him to continue to fight. He was the ultimate Twitter troll prodding the likes of Darren Till, Jorge Masvidal, Conor McGregor, Colby, and Marty Usman among others. Many fight fans wish we were able to see him fight the best of the best in his prime but he sure made plenty of noise in the short stint he was there.
Ben entered the UFC undefeated at 18-0 having held the Bellator and ONE belts at Welterweight and walks away at 19-2 overall.
